The richly illustrated manual is divided into three sections: the first documents the menu bar, the second is a step-by-step how-to section (e.g., "Web Site Navigation.This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Its online help offers an Answer Wizard that accepts a natural language question and does a good job of mapping it to appropriate topic areas. PhotoDraw comes with an eight-lesson interactive tutorial to teach the basics of the program.

It exports to the standard formats, plus PhotoDraw's own format, MIX, which preserves its information in editable "layers." As expected, PhotoDraw is tightly integrated with Microsoft Office, and supports drag-and-drop import from Office or other OLE-compatible applications as well as direct export to Office applications. PhotoDraw supports import from all the major file formats, including Photoshop's PSD and CorelDraw's CDR. PhotoDraw's user interface is designed for beginners, but the program possesses many features that even advanced users will love. Combining photo editing and illustration in one easy-to-use package, PhotoDraw allows quick production of professional-looking graphics for users who do not have the time to invest in learning higher-end graphics suites like Photoshop, Painter, Illustrator, FreeHand, or the multi-modular Corel Draw. It is an excellent new program in the mid-range graphics market. Microsoft bills PhotoDraw 2000 as "the graphics companion for Microsoft Office" but it is really much more.
